Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 4, 2026
MacroMax is a calorie and macro tracking app. This policy explains what we collect, why, who processes it for us, and how to delete it. We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time code.
- Body stats you enter: sex, age, height, weight, activity level and goal, used to calculate your calorie and macro targets.
- What you log: your recipes, meal logs, meal budgets, weigh-ins, and any foods you add yourself.
- Meal descriptions and photos you choose to send to the AI features. These are used to draft that one meal and are not saved to your account.
- Subscription status: whether you have an active trial or subscription. We never see your payment details; Apple and Google handle payment.
- App usage events: which steps and features you use (for example "finished onboarding", "logged a meal", "saved a recipe", or whether the AI asked a question), with simple counts and settings, your device type and the app version. They never include what you ate or anything you typed. We use them only to improve the app, and they stay in our own database.
- Voice logging. If you tap the microphone, your phone's speech recognition turns what you say into text. Where your phone can do this on the device, the audio never leaves it; otherwise Apple's speech service may process it under Apple's privacy terms. MacroMax does not receive, record or store the audio. The text is handled like anything else you type.
- Workouts you log by hand. The type, intensity and length of a workout you add on the Dashboard are kept on your phone only. They are not saved to your account or sent to any AI provider, and they never change your calorie target. The usage events above note that a workout was logged, with its type, intensity and length.
- Reminders. If you turn on the Monday reminder for your Weekly Wrapped, your phone schedules a notification on the device. The notification is created and shown by your phone; the only thing we receive is a usage event noting whether you turned it on. You can turn it off at any time.
- Meal suggestions. The "What should I eat?" deck asks our AI provider for meal ideas. The request includes your remaining calories and protein, your goal, the cuisines you picked and what you avoid (such as halal or vegetarian), kept on your phone; it does not include your name, meals or photos, and it is not saved to your account.
- Recipe methods. When you open a meal's full recipe, its name and its ingredient names and weights are sent to our AI provider to write the cooking steps and food-safety points. The steps are kept on your phone, not on your account. The "Find recipes online" button simply opens a web search in your browser.
- Recipe ideas. When you ask for a recipe, the request you typed (and, if you ask to adjust one, that recipe's ingredient names and weights) is sent to our AI provider to write the recipe. It is not saved to your account.
- Unmatched ingredient names: when the AI names an ingredient our food database can't match (for example "ackee"), we record that one ingredient name, whether it came from a text or photo entry, and the app version, so we know which foods to add. It is not linked to your account and never includes the rest of your meal.
We don't collect your location, contacts or advertising identifiers, and the app has no third-party ads or ad tracking.
Apple Health
If you connect Apple Health (it's optional, and only on iPhone), MacroMax reads your steps, active calories, workouts and weigh-ins. It never writes anything to Apple Health.
- Steps, active calories and workouts are read on your phone and shown on your Dashboard. They are not uploaded, stored on our servers, or sent to any AI provider, and they never change your calorie target.
- Weigh-ins from Apple Health are added to your weight history in MacroMax, so your weight trend includes them. They're stored with your account like weigh-ins you enter yourself, and deleted with it.
Data from Apple Health is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared with anyone else. You can disconnect in Account & settings, and change what MacroMax may read in iPhone Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices.
Community recipes
Recipes you save are added anonymously to a shared collection that may be offered to other MacroMax users as community recipes, so everyone has more meals to start from. What's shared is the recipe's name, its ingredients and amounts, and its number of servings. Your name, email and account are never shown or attached. A recipe that uses a food you entered or imported yourself is never shared. A dish is only ever offered to others once at least two different people have saved it. You can turn sharing off at any time under Account → Share my meals anonymously, which removes the recipes you've shared. Deleting a recipe or your account removes its shared copy too.
Who processes your data for us
- Supabase hosts our database and sign-in, and stores the account and logging data above.
- Resend delivers sign-in emails.
- OpenAI receives meal descriptions and photos when you use AI recipe drafting or photo logging, a meal's nutrition totals when you ask for a meal insight, and, to write your Weekly Wrapped report, your weekly calorie, protein, carb and fat averages and weight-trend figures (never meal names or food text). OpenAI's API terms state that this data isn't used to train their models by default.
- RevenueCat, Apple and Google handle subscriptions and purchases.
- USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts receive food search terms and scanned barcodes to look up nutrition data. These requests don't include your account details.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your profile, recipes, meal logs, budgets, weigh-ins and usage events within 30 days.
Your choices
- You can edit or delete individual recipes, logs and weigh-ins in the app at any time.
- You can stop sharing your recipes as community recipes at any time in the app (Account → Share my meals anonymously).
- You can request a copy of your data, or deletion of your account and all its data, by emailing [email protected] from the address you sign in with.
Health information
MacroMax is a nutrition tracker, not a medical service. Its estimates and AI insights aren't medical advice. Talk to a qualified professional before making significant changes to your diet.
Children
MacroMax isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to each person's data is restricted to that account at the database level, and secret keys (such as our AI provider key) are kept on our servers, never in the app.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and we'll tell you in the app if the change is significant.
